If it was during the Stone Age you could make do with a good search for a cave in order to satisfy your physiological need for shelter. You however, are living in the modern age in which where you stay is not just shelter but also about social status, symbols of culture, icons or monuments that reflect deepest memories.
Every living human being has memories and would want them to be represented on buildings we construct like those in ancient Rome, Greece, the stone-hewn church of Lalibela from ancient Ethiopia and the Great Zimbabwe of the Munhumutapa Empire.




But to translate these memories from the mind to a building there is a need for a special process that we have called architecture. It just dont happen unless you just want a cave! All historical structures required talented architects to be hired because the skill was beyond the project owners no matter how intelligent. This is the reason why King Solomon the wisest man to live had to hire artisans from Tyre during the construction of the Temple of Jerusalem which became one of the wonders of the ancient world. The crown prince of Dubai in 1999 had to import British architects in his bid to erect an icon in the sea and this building was later called the Burj Al Arab.
